Turn Around And Run

From a week in paradise I got used to
Holdin' you close ev'ry night
As we come down from the clouds and touch the ground
You're squeezin' my hand so tight
But if paradise is behind us where we learned less is really more
And all we needed was each other
Then what the hell are we comin' back for

Let's turn around and run
Back to the sea and the sun
Don't need much to have fun
Just some lotion and some rum
We can snorkel for free
Or make love on the beach
Lay around in the sun
Smartest thing we've ever done
Let's turn around and run

This pile of a city's so full of people
Buzzin' around like flies
All stressed out in their ev'ryday world
Dressed up in their suits and ties
Tryin' to achieve the next level
With a bonus they can buy a new car
Or a house where they keep their family
They think those things are who they are

We were suffering from a delusion
That we could leave all this behind
No choice but collect our baggage
Get ready for that 8 to 5 grind
As we lugged our way to the exit
I could see the question in her eyes
So I answered with a smile and I grabbed her hand
Last plane back to paradise

Redfish Island

I've got dreams about the ocean
To sail the seven seas
Or catch a gulfstream breeze
And hide out in the Keys
Take my time and live my life
Just the way I please
But why am I afraid to sail away

She's a good boat and she's sturdy
And I know she'd pass the test
I've fitted her out perfectly
I know she's the best
And patiently she waits for me
She's ready I can tell
But her body's never felt the ocean swell

It's a long way from Redfish to the Islands
It could take a week or more
And there could be a storm
No I don't wanna die on Redfish Island
So just push me to the Gulf and set me free
'Cause that's the only way I'll live my dream

It was Saturday they told me
About Jimmy down the dock
How a heart attack had stopped him dead
I thought about our talk
He swore that in a year he planned
To lay his lawbooks down
Now his boat's for sale and Jimmy's in the ground

The next week I was busy
Sold my house and sold my car
Sold nearly ev'rything I own
Except this old guitar
Stepped aboard my lady love
And steered her out to sea
'Cause that city life had done enough to me

Nautical Man

Well he's read all the magazines bought all the books plotted his chorse on the chart
He's dreaming of islands and sailing away he can't wait to follow his heart
It keeps crossing his mind in his everyday grind he can't keep his mind on his work
Well he's a memo away from just leaving today and telling his boss he's a jerk

And it's heave ho throw off the lines
He's had about all he can stand
Heave ho leaving it behind
With the dreams and the schemes of a nautical man

He's saving his money ridged out his boat and already called an old flame
He knows all the hurricane harbors he knows all the islands by name
But he's sitting in traffic just trying to get home and so far he's not even close
Well this could be the night that he unties those lines
Sales off and says adios

And it's heave ho throw off the lines
He's had about all he can stand
Heave ho leaving it behind
With the dreams and the schemes of a nautical man

Now he's having his coffee enjoying the view anchored in paradise caye
It's Breakfast ashore lobster for lunch diving the reefs all day
Now there's just no regretting the state that he's now in deciding to make his escape
Tell the IRS finds out and the bank realizes he's already ten payments late

And it's heave ho throw off the lines
He's had about all he can stand
Heave ho leaving it behind
with the dreams and the schemes of a nautical man

With the dreams and the schemes of a nautical man

I'm Not Over You

Every night at last call
When I feel like I gave it my all
There's one or maybe two
Who try to make me forget about you
They dance by seductively whisper they want me but all I can think of is you

I'm not over you
And I can't forget
Your touch was heaven to me
It's still here in my head
Ah the magic on your lips deceive me
You hypnotize me so well
I'm not over you I'm still under your spell

There were times that I tried
To keep from falling for all of your lines
My fears disappeared
As you kept the illusion alive
And the curtain came down on your marvelous show and you left me alone in the dark

I'm not over you
And I can't forget
Your touch was heaven to me
It's still here in my head
Ah the magic on your lips deceive me
You hypnotize me so well
I'm not over you I'm still under your spell

Through the smoke and the mirrors I saw a reflection of you
running scared from a love that left your heart broken and bruised

I'm not over you
And I can't forget
Your touch was heaven to me
It's still here in my head
Ah the magic on your lips deceive me
You hypnotize me so well
I'm not over you
No I'll never get over you
No I'm not over you I'm still under your spell

Where Did Redfish Go

Last night I took my girl out in the bay
To find a little place where we could hide away
The moon lit up the night the mood for love was right
I couldn't wait to find a spot for anchor's aweigh

We sailed an hour maybe two or three
She kissed and snuggled up to me naked in the breeze
But after a while she seemed to lose her smile
I couldn't find the island and she fell fast asleep…oh

Where did Redfish go, it was there last week I know
We'd anchor overnight and have ourselves a time. Wohoho
Where did Redfish go, I know it didn't float
Somebody stole my favorite place away

She's snorin' in the cockpit and it's late
I've looked ev'ry place that I can safely navigate
It vanished in the dark, now there's nowhere I can park
How could an island disappear and not leave a trace

But wait a minute what's that funny beep I hear
The light on my fathometer is not very clear
And just about that time, the boat stopped on a dime
I flew past the compass and I landed on my rear…oh…

SEARCHIN’

Yes I’m still alone
I keep waiting for a sign
I keep searchin high and low
I keep both eyes open wide
I know somewhere in this great big world
For me there’s just one girl
I won’t give up until I see
Her lovin’ eyes lookin’ back at me

I keep searchin
Searchin for those eyes that shine for me
I keep searchin
Searchin for someone to share my dream

You know love can find you
At a most unusual time
And you wake up from a dream
Looking right into her eyes
And you know it’s her right from the start
You feel it deep down in your heart
The magic in the air between
The breath you share can be so sweet

I keep searchin
Searchin for those eyes that shine for me
I keep searchin
Searchin for someone to share my dream

BLAME IT ON BUFFETT

Somewhere I took a right instead of a left
College never sat well so I headed South Southwest
I ended up in Texas on the Gulf of Mexico
Where I learned to sail and I learned to write
About the places I wanted to go

Blame it on Buffett
He was my hero from way in the past
And I sang his songs and had island dreams
Before I ever raised a main up a mast
Blame it on Buffett
We took the road less traveled upon
And though he beat me there well I’m enjoyin’ the journey
And I love singing both of our songs

I sailed from Lauderdale down to Key Largo
Crossed the Gulf on a fast sloop and I sailed the Abacos
As a kid I read KonTiki and now all the pirate books too
There’s just so many places on my list to see
I’m goin’ crazy just tryin’ to choose

Blame it on Buffett
He was my hero from way in the past
And I sang his songs and had island dreams
Before I ever raised a main up a mast
Blame it on Buffett
We took the road less traveled upon
And though he beat me there well I’m enjoyin’ the journey
And I love singing both of our songs

Well now fame and piles of money I’ll never see
But I love playin’ my music and thank God my fans love me
And though I’m not a handsome guy well there were ladies who were kind
And loved me through the faults I had
Well it’s been one whale of a ride

Blame it on Buffett
He was my hero from way in the past
And I sang his songs and had island dreams
Before I ever raised a main up a mast
Blame it on Buffett
We took the road less traveled upon
And though he beat me there well I’m enjoyin’ the journey
And I love singing both of our songs

Sailin' Cross The Gulf On My Own

Well I thought it'd be a kick and I could say that I'd done it
Sailin' cross the Gulf on my own
I'd heard 'em talk about it and they said it was a powder run
Sailin' cross the Gulf on my own
So I loaded up my boat hopin' it would stay afloat
And I bought all the charts and the beer
And I headed out to sea just to see if I could do it
Sailin' cross the Gulf on my own

Well the first day out I saw a waterspout
Sailin' cross the Gulf on my own
Then a squall overtook me and it wasn't very funny
Sailin' cross the Gulf on my own

Then a little drip here and another over there
Then the water's up over the floor
So I thought I'd write a letter just in case I didn't make it
Sailin' cross the Gulf on my own

Well I tried to save the 'nanas and the bagels and the candy bars
Sailin' cross the Gulf on my own
But the water'd gotten to 'em and they wasn't worth a chewin'
Sailin' cross the Gulf on my own
So I opened up a can of my favorite Spam and I choked it down with a beer
And it started me a thinkin' I wished I was home a drinkin'
In a dryer pair of underwear

I fin'lly made it to the other side and I've 'bout decided
To leave my boat right here
Well my wife was right when she said I'd regret it
Sailin' cross the Gulf on my own
So if you'd ever thought about takin' off in your boat
Sailin' cross the Gulf on your own
Well take my advice and listen to your wife about
Sailin' cross the Gulf on your own

It's like standin' in the shower
For about a hundred hours
Sailin' cross the Gulf on your own

That First Guitar

I still remember the smell as I opened the lid
It was my first guitar and I was just a kid
My daddy bought it for me cause I learned on his
Bet he never dreamed it would come to this
I sure hope he knew how much I loved him
And that First Guitar

I practiced “I’m a Pilgrim” and the “Old Rugged Cross”
I played along with Chet’s old hymns on the Magnavox
I learned E A & B and C F & G
I’d play the chords daddy’d play the melody
Oh how he loved to hear my play
That First Guitar

I come from a long line of fenders
But none of them as fine as that first one
She was baby blue put a smile on my face
I’d swell with pride and take her out of the case
None since then I’ve played could ever replace
That First Guitar

Outside a room in Dallas somebody robbed my van
They took my first guitar and nearly all I had
We buried daddy in ‘97
I had a dream he was up in heaven
Playin’ while the angels sang along
On that First Guitar

I come from a long line of fenders
But none of them as fine as that first one
She was baby blue put a smile on my face
I’d swell with pride and take her out of the case
None since then I’ve played could ever replace
That First Guitar

Major Doubts About Waterspouts

We left the coast of Galveston we were 40 boats in a row
Southbound down to Tuxpan racin' to Mexico
Well I'd never been on a crossing, been in the Gulf but not far out
I was lookin' for days of pleasure when I saw that waterspout

I'm havin' major doubts about waterspouts
Somebody tell me what to do
I'm havin' major doubts about waterspouts
I wish I were home with you

She snaked down from a low cloud we were busy reefin' the sails
We all just stared with wonder as the devil wagged her tail
She went away but in a minute later came back close our way
Ev'ryone was quiet then I heard myself say

But out on the ocean there's no place to go
No way to get out of the way
I'll tell you right now this terrified sailor
Sure learned how to pray

SOLITUDE

Oceans of blue to the horizon
I hear voices though my quiet mind
Solitude can make you lonesome
But it can take you to another place in time

Feel the breeze straighten the telltale
Hear the mainsail firm and turn to foil
Wind and wing pulling me forward
The rhythm of the world stays so loyal

But I just can’t trust emotions on the mainland
Ev’ry port is just a bittersweet prelude
I guess I’m destined just to sail before the tradewinds
Cause the one thing I can trust  is Solitude

The oceans swell  rocking me gently
Ghosts of lovers past come to call
I wish I could tell my heart not to listen
On waves of passion it’s so easy to fall

But I just can’t trust emotions on the mainland
Ev’ry port is just a bittersweet prelude
I guess I’m destined just to sail before the tradewinds
Cause the one thing I can trust  is Solitude
I guess I’m destined just to sail before the tradewinds
Cause the one thing I can trust  is Solitude
